The Animal and Crop Services Section aims to grow and support agriculture sectors such as the livestock, agronomic and horticulture industries, being proactive, sustainable and innovative. The section supports agriculture protection through administration of legislation and programs.

About Our Opportunity

The Senior Program Administrator of the Plant Pollination and Protection Unit is responsible for programs and services related to the development and protection of plant and animal health.

Primary Accountabilities

The Senior Program Administrator oversees programming, promotion, monitoring, compliance and assessment of activities and practices related to several pieces of legislation including the Farm Practices Act; Bee Industry Act, Fur Act, Dairy Industry Act, Agricultural Weed Control Act; Agriculture and Marketing Act (Prevention and Control of Apple Maggot and Nova Scotia Wine Standards Regulations) and administration of related Boards.

You will lead a diverse team of professionals that protect public and industry interests related to pests, pesticides, pest management, dairy and traceability. This includes a broad range of related initiatives, programs and legislative priorities.

You will work closely with others and work across government and with various stakeholders and sectors to build collaborative relationships and innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (such as Integrated Pest Management, Plant Science or Biology) is required as well as six (6) years’ relevant experience; or an equivalent combination. Supervisory experience is an asset.

As the successful candidate, you will have demonstrated the ability to engage staff and work in multidisciplinary teams. Candidates must be able to deal with complex issues while demonstrating strong technical competency, analytical skills, communications skills and the ability to influence stakeholders (within and outside government at the municipal, provincial and federal level). You also have demonstrated experience formulating decisions within the scope of applicable policies and legislation, strategic planning, and conflict resolution.

Candidates must be able to communicate complex topics effectively in both written and oral forms. This role will require you to be fully proficient in a Microsoft Office environment, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $2,913.59 – $3,421.98 Bi-Weekly
