Job description: The Opportunity The Soulpepper Black Youth Theatre Intensive: A Summer Mixtape Program represents an opportunity to join a creative and dynamic arts organization

The Position Education Summer Student: The Mixtape Program Assistant. This is a paid position. $20/hour, using the contract dates below. Approximately 74 hours.

Contract Dates/Times:
Monday, July 12 – Friday, August 20, 2021 (part-time, remote)
*12PM EST-3PM EST, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Plus evenings as required (There is no program on Civic Holiday August 2nd)
-Planning meetings, mentor meetings, and post-program debrief meetings as needed.

Must be available for all program dates.
*Some program dates have time changes, a full schedule will be provided to those who are interviewed

Key Responsibilities Reporting to the Education Coordinator, the Program Assistant will play a key role in facilitating Soulpepper’s Summer Mixtape Program 2021.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with the Program Lead Artist Educator and other Guest Artists to develop program content
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the program participants
  • Running all technical elements of program (Zoom, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Leading age appropriate theatre-based activities
  • Reporting program issues and needs to the Education Department
  • Completing administrative tasks associated with the program
  • Providing post-program feedback
  • Other duties as may be required

Requirements:

Qualifications To be eligible to participate, the individual must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 6; and,
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Self identify as Black
  • Participation in a Soulpepper Youth Program in a previous year is an asset

The successful candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • A strong interest in theatre, performance, and teaching
  • Professionalism, maturity and sensitivity to confidential information
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook is an asset
  • A background in media/film/theatre production is an asset
  • A background in working with vulnerable sectors (youth, newcomers, and older adults) is an asset
