Position Summary:

An analysis of the growth and development of amateur and professional sport in Canada from the early 17th century to the present.

This course will examine major influences upon the evolution of Canadian sport over a period spanning 1700 to the present. Canadian sport, much like any societal construction, has been influenced by social class, geography, immigration, urbanization, industrialization, religion, gender issues, business interests, and government. It is imperative that physical educators/kinesiologists understand these influences upon our sporting heritage in order to assess developments on the Canadian sport scene today. This course will kindle an appreciation of our country’s rich sporting heritage and serve as a springboard for students to seek knowledge about Canada’s past.

Qualifications – Required: PhD Degree

Qualifications – Discipline: Kinesiology (Physical Education) or related

Qualifications – Areas of Specialization: Sport History

Qualifications – Other: Master’s Degree or Bachelor of Education may be deemed acceptable with extensive experience in sports history. Evidence of scholarship or practical experience related to KP341 content an asset.

Courses created specifically for online instruction have been collaboratively designed by a content expert (normally a faculty member) and an instructional designer and digital media and educational technology specialists. Online course development is guided by instructional design strategies and makes use of pedagogically led technology. Online courses are intentionally developed for instructors and students to be separated by space (location) and/or time (often both).

Remote instruction, as the term is used here, uses technology-enabled tools and software to facilitate course delivery when in-person instruction is not possible in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Remote” instruction is not directly comparable to “online course” instruction. The difference is not in the quality of the content, but in the design of content delivery.
