The New Tecumseth Public Library is seeking a people-oriented individual to work in all three Branches (Alliston, Tottenham and Beeton) as a Permanent Part-Time Information Program Specialist. The successful applicant will be required to work with a very high degree of accuracy, exercise tact and independent judgment in accordance with library policy and must possess demonstrated respect and appreciation for patrons of all ages. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for additional hours available from time to time, and that the applicant should be available to work at all three branches and have transportation to the same.

Requirements:

• Library technician’s diploma or equivalent in training and experience
• At least 2 years’ experience in public library work preferred
• Post-secondary degree in library sciences or similar field of study preferred; Courses in the provision of Reader’s Advisory and Reference Service from a recognized program
• Demonstrated excellence in customer service
• A commitment to continued professional development
• Excellent communication and public relations skills essential
• Technology and computer literacy skills essential
• Knowledge of collections, electronic databases and reference sources required
• Excellent time management skills required

Duties:

• Responsible for overseeing the operation of the Circulation Desk
• Provide reference, information and advisory services, and designated services at service points and roaming
• Assist with adult collection development including weeding and recommendations for purchase
• Regularly responsible for opening and closing the library
• Handle user complaints with referral to manager as necessary
• Under the direction of a Manager, provide guidance and training to junior staff on how to perform tasks or duties.
• Travel between branches, as duties may be assigned at any library branch
• Provide relief as required for any shift in any location
• Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Wage Rate:$ 28.54 per hour.

Hours of Work: Up to an average of 25 hours per week. Hours and location are subject to change at any time.

Base Location: D.A. Jones Branch – Beeton
