Senior Residue Agronomist
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr. Residue Agronomist, are to ensure the successful completion of crop residue and environmental fate studies in accordance with good agronomic practices and applicable Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) principles.
This position is based in the Guelph, ON area which includes the Ennotville farm site.
Key Tasks:
- Act as an agronomic resource to department personnel, as required.
- Conduct field trials independently and with minimal supervision in accordance with GLP guidelines, study plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs) interacting with other disciplines, as required.
- Utilize sound scientific principles and standard agronomic methods to conduct research studies.
- Ensure the upkeep (routine and non-routine maintenance) of field and lab equipment and purchasing of all necessary field supplies.
- Ensure all relevant safety procedures are followed, exercising health precautions to minimize risk and to ensure the integrity of the study.
- Strictly follow GLP standards and federal guidelines to assure acceptability of studies by regulatory agencies.
- Maintain GLP test site compliance by hosting inspectors and auditors and responding to findings in a timely and professional manner.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to use their Canadian market and regulatory insight to conduct high-quality research studies, putting the grower at the forefront.
- Cultivate innovation by working to create new and better ways for the organization to be successful while supporting sustainable initiatives, environmental stewardship and value-added activities.
- Train and supervise summer students to ensure success and quality of contribution to projects.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstrations of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possess the following:
- Degree in agriculture or a related field with 3 years of experience, or a diploma in agriculture or a related field with 5 years of experience.
- Agronomic knowledge, experience and/or background required.
- Certified Crop Science Consultant, Professional Agrologist or Technical Agrologist designation preferred
- Valid Driver’s License, ideally with a class of license to safely tow heavy trailers
- Knowledge of OECD GLPs specifically in areas of field trial conduction
- Detail orientated and highly organized
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to support team approach, yet comfortable and able to work independently when required
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, etc.)
- Ability to travel approximately 10% within Canada, as required
