Job Description
Assistant Manager, Agriculture
The Assistant Manager, Agriculture will report to the Director, Fair Operations and Special Programs and will oversee the planning and implementation of the Agriculture exhibits and various agriculture events. Fair preparations will include managing contracts for the PNE’s Farm Country, hiring and training agriculture staff and leading 4-H show operations. We are seeking an adaptable and guest-oriented individual that has a passion for the events industry, and Agriculture. The ideal candidate will bring a sound knowledge of agriculture, livestock management and event coordination to the Fair Operations Department for our exciting upcoming season.
What will you do this year?
In your role as an Assistant Manager, Agriculture you will:
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the Fair’s 4-H activities (limited activities in 2021), Discovery Farm and Farm Country exhibits.
- Meet program deliverables and coordinate resources within a predetermined budget.
- Assist with hiring, training and development of Agriculture department staff.
- Provide administrative support for employee hiring, scheduling, payroll, and discipline.
- If Applicable: oversee the planning and implementation of the 4-H Festival including but not limited to; creating show schedules, producing a prize book, contacting judges and sponsors, overseeing the data entry office, coordinating the 4-H volunteer committee, staffing and all other event deliverables.
- Oversee and manage contracts for the Farm Country and 4-H programs as well as coordinates travel and accommodation for judges as required.
- Perform other related duties/responsibilities as assigned.
What we are looking for?
- A university degree in a relevant discipline and considerable program and show production experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of agricultural and horticultural matters, including livestock management and related legislation and regulations.
- 1-2 years of general office experience, previous event Management, event Planning or program implementation experience is considered an asset.
- Previous experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to analyze requirements and develop appropriate strategies and solutions to meet show and event needs.
- Ability to foster effective and positive working relationships with internal and external contacts including special interest groups and animal rights organizations.
- Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills in order to provide high quality service to clients, stakeholders and internal staff.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to provide timely and high-quality service to clients.
- Must have superior time management and multitasking skills, with the proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage a variety of diverse projects with minimal supervision.
- Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Must be available to work extended hours and work weeks during events and peak periods.
