POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor CGC Aquatics, assists with the staffing, programming, and operation of the Canada Games Complex Pool.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for scheduling and assists with supervision of staff, including hiring, evaluation and discipline.

  • Provides staff with the necessary training to supervise a safe and enjoyable swim program, promote good public relations, and facilitate public need.
  • Ensures that all codes, standards, and regulations are clearly communicated and adhered to.
  • Provides information and reports, keeps records and makes recommendations on matters pertain to the section.
  • Receives and responds to public inquiries and requests, including pool bookings.
  • Provides vacation relief for the Program Supervisor Aquatics.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • Current certifications: CRCS/LSS Instructor, National Lifeguard Service, Standard First Aid CPR Level C, Aquatic Supervisory Training
  • Two years’ experience as a head lifeguard, senior instructor, or other related position

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to direct others and to issue and accurately comprehend written/oral information and instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to identify, understand,, and meet/exceed the requirements of internal and external customers
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate and recognize staff
  • Self-starter with strong organization skills and the ability to work independently
  • Basic skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health & Safety Act

Assets:

  • NSPF Certified Pool Operator
  • First Aid Instructor and AED provider certification

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must maintain all awards current from data of application until end of employment period
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must become certified as a First Aid and AED Instructor within 1 year of being hired
  • Will be required to work irregular hours and weekends
