Overview of Position
We are seeking a Director, Education and Professional Development who will report to the Vice-President. This position is most suited to an individual who thrives in working in a small business environment requiring a combination of strategic thinking and a hands-on approach. This position does not currently have direct reports, and the successful candidate will be required to fulfill both hands-on and strategic duties.
We are looking for a talented, driven individual who will be directly responsible for managing the educational curriculum strategy, requirements, technical content development, and updating processes. Working in a highly collaborative environment, the Director, Education and Professional Development will be responsible for upholding FITT’s educational curriculum standards, implement the certification designation(s) educational requirements and professional development courses thereof, and for curriculum updates and development.

While FITT has office space in Ottawa, ON, the candidate selected for this indeterminate, full-time position can be working entirely from home.
Position Accountabilities
- Taking the lead to ensure relevance of FITT Body of Knowledge related to educational curriculum
- Ensuring FITTskills content and examinations meet the applicable international trade competencies requirements
- Compliance with third-party accreditation regulatory requirements and standards (anticipated future)
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and implement the development of new, and maintenance of existing, international trade knowledge-based resources to ensure quality, currency, and enhance client value via a variety of channels
- Work with clients and/or potential clients to define training needs; and develop needs assessments and/or proposals for custom content/training projects
- Identify opportunities regarding learning solutions, training curricula design, technology, and instructional delivery options, and implementation thereof
- Manage subject matter expert and vendor relationships to ensure outsourced work meets FITT needs
- Working with subject matter experts and graphic designers for the layout of books and online content
- Researching and implementing strategies to increase the awareness and support of our online learning platform
- Analyze and report on performance data to determine effectiveness of instructional systems, courses, materials, student learning, knowledge transfer and satisfaction
- Identify 3rd party accreditation opportunities, secure and maintain compliance
- Oversee, implement and support efforts of the Content Advisory Panel
- Responsible for annual reviews and monthly meetings with the Content Advisory Panel
- Engaging with translation companies to ensure our content is available in English and French
- Assist in the development of financials for the unit and initiating cost efficiencies
- Special projects and other duties as required
Key Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree and/or relevant experience and professional development
- Recent, relevant solid project experience supporting the development of training curricula
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a learning and development professional, with deep knowledge and understanding of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience
- Ability to work at both a strategic and tactical level to achieve results
- Tech savvy and superior skills in systems such as Learning Management programs, Desktop Publishing, and Databases
- High level of attention to detail, with an ability to produce high-quality work efficiently
- Exceptional project management skills: ability to prioritize, focus, lead, delegate, adapt
- Flexibility in managing multiple tasks and coping with a demanding workload
Desired Assets
- Experience managing training programs/projects
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing personalized customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Fluency in English and French
- Experience with small / medium businesses and/or not-for-profit sector
- CITP, FITT Certificate or Diploma Holder
