Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager and working under the supervision or direction of regulated health professionals, the Care Team Assistant (CTA), provides direct, hands-on care based on the needs of the patient and program/or unit. As a member of the collaborative care team, the CTA is responsible for supporting patients’ activities of daily living (AOL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL). The CTA also reinforces patient and family teaching according to established guidelines and the plan of care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Continuing Care Assistant program
  • Continuing Care Certification with Dept of Health and Wellness
  • Current BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Experience in care of the medical/surgical and geriatric/rehabilitation patient an asset
  • Completion of an Alzheimer’s or Dementia Course
  • Current certification in CPI and Back Care program (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to take direction and accept accountability for actions taken
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills
  • Annually access the training and education on patient, client and personal safety made available by Nova Scotia Health
  • The successful applicant will have a commitment to the mission and values of Nova Scotia Health
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred
