Location: Ottawa, Ontario

The Opportunity:

The General Site Superintendent is responsible to manage the full construction operation of assigned communities. Emphasis on achieving the highest level of homeowner satisfaction while demonstrating and upholding all of Minto’s core values. Accountabilities also include delivering on schedule and on budget while maintaining health and safety objectives.

What you’ll be responsible for day to day:

Construction Site

  • Responsible for the look, appearance, presentation of the overall site;
  • Seeking opportunities to assist our home owners in order to provide an exceptional customer experience;
  • Coordinates work schedules with foreman and trades;
  • Liaison and coordinate with Site Staff and head office to achieve objectives;
  • Ensures all reports, records, timesheets and relevant documentation are submitted on time;
  • Accountable for achieving annual targeted starts and closings as laid out annually;
  • Communication and coordination with other departments to ensure timely delivery of permits, customer work orders and customer changes to ensure a seamless construction process;
  • Monitors critical paths for communities, contractor schedules and cost control to ensure homes are ready to meet expected quality and budgets;
  • Works with MasterCare to ensure quality production of home construction and ensure customer needs are met;
  • Presents themselves in a professional and customer focused manner in all interactions with homeowners;
  • Ensure after hours and weekend security is in place for construction site;
  • Liaise with Health and Safety Representatives. Responsible for the Health and Safety requirements as per the Ministry of Labour regulations, and Minto’s Health and Safety Policies and Representatives;
  • Maintaining overall relationship with trades and external stakeholders. Ensures high standards, establishes accountabilities and measures performance consistent with Minto’s Values;
  • Works to achieve or exceed annual customer satisfaction targets Plan;
  • Routinely conducts work inspections to ensure standards are met;

Financial Accountability

  • Continuously pursues cost effective alternatives to continually reduce cost and time to improve financial performance in all areas;
  • Accountable for the construction site budgets for the area, stage, and unit/lot;
  • Manages G&A budgets for the community.

Management and Leadership

  • Responsible for setting objectives, performance evaluation, and compensation planning of their staff;
  • Builds, manages, and maintains a high performance, highly engaged team through effective talent recruitment, coaching, and development;
  • Responsible for ensuring staff is informed and connected with Minto communications, business activities, etc.;
  • Sets high standards, establishes accountabilities and measures performance consistent with Minto’s Values;
  • Inspects the work site continuously to ensure all Minto staff and trades partners abide by Ministry of Ontario Labour regulations and Minto’s Health & Safety Policies;

Other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, as requested by management.

Who we’re looking for:

Education: A High School Diploma is required, A College Diploma is an asset (i.e. architectural, civil engineering or construction management).

Experience: Minimum five to seven (5-7) years in the construction industry with two to three (2-3) years of experience as a foreman.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint), Outlook
  • Knowledge of the framing trade is an asset (usually promoted from this position)
