Position Title: Regenerative Agriculture Agronomist

Summary of Position
The Regenerative Agriculture Agronomist is responsible for providing direction for the transformation of the current corporate potato farms into a state-of-the-art processing farm by driving McCain’s sustainability and regenerative agriculture initiatives, new technology implementation and variety adoption, all while increasing yield and improving raw quality and productivity. The Regenerative Agriculture Agronomist will report directly to the Sr. Agronomist -East and support both the Florenceville and Grand Falls Valley Farms operations.
Essential Responsibilities include the following:
Commercial Agronomy Support – Valley Farms
- Develop crop plan for full-cycle farm operations aimed at optimizing yield and quality in potato production from planting to storage.
- Manage day-to-day data collection and interpretation of agronomic data to make the best decisions for the crop (agronomic data, petioles, soil tests, scouting reports, etc.)
- Report out to the organization on crop status and identify risks to crop production.
- Complete year-end evaluation on crop performance, identify opportunities for improvement and develop action plans to address in the next season.
- Leverage new potato varieties into existing production helping the farm to understand the value of the new varieties to Valley Farms’ operations.
- Engage in on-farm agronomic research to leverage in the most advanced practices and technologies to maximize farm profitability and report these results out during the annual McCain research reporting session.
Regional Regenerative Agriculture Support – New Brunswick
- Work closely with the McCain Farm of the Future to incorporate cutting edge regenerative agriculture practices into Valley Farm’s operations.
- Lead regional extension efforts to drive adoption of regenerative practices with regional growers through active demonstration on Valley Farm operations.
- Develop trials and evaluations to build confidence in positive returns associated with regenerative agriculture practice adoption.
- Work with regional stakeholders to ensure climate smart grant opportunities are fully utilized by our grower base.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to drive regenerative practice adoption across North America.
Professional Development
- Manage and direct local intern support for the farm.
- Engage in continuous learning opportunities to develop skills and knowledge of potato production.
- Be an engaged and energetic team member-supporting fellow Agronomists and company objectives.
- Preparation of written reports and oral presentations to wider organization.
- Responsible for providing critical analysis and interpretation of data from many sources.
- Be the face of McCain Agriculture: Represent McCain Foods as a leader in the potato industry.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree coupled with related experience in Plant Science, Soil Science or Agricultural production.
- Ability to become an active member of the NB Institute of Agrologists
- Must both be able to work cooperatively with teams and independently with little supervision depending on project demands.
- Knowledge of potato production and storage is preferred.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and computer skills needed.
- Knowledge of and willingness to develop innovative new agronomic techniques.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
- This position is most suited to an individual who demonstrates leadership skills and has the desire and ability to contribute and grow within the McCain Foods North American organization.
- Public speaking skills are a valuable asset.
- A strong bias towards workplace safety both for McCain employees and our grower partners.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Professional Agrologist certification required
Valid driver’s license
Obtain CMA (Certified McCain Agronomist) Certification within a year after hire

Requires visual acuity to focus on desktop and/or laptop computer screen.
Requires standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time, talking and listening. Some heavy lifting is required (40 lbs).
Scheduled work times may fluctuate seasonally related to farming cycles, especially during planting and harvesting. We are a global company, must have willingness to occasionally modify work day to accommodate global meeting schedules.
