Report to: Construction Superintendent

Job Summary: Directly supervise and coordinate activities of crew.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the heavy construction industry; experience with road building and/or surface mining operations preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and organize work.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Ability to problem solve, think critically, and make decisions.
  • Good math skills.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • General knowledge of maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities:

  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Read specifications such as blueprints to determine construction requirements and to plan procedures.
  • Estimate material and worker requirements to complete jobs.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities at the construction site.
  • Confer with managerial and technical personnel, other departments, and contractors in order to resolve problems and to coordinate activities.
  • Coordinate work activities with other construction project activities.
  • Order or requisition materials and supplies.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Assign work to employees, based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs.
  • Manages a program of preventative maintenance and repair of equipment in field in accordance with production needs and company policies and objectives.
  • Conduct safety meetings and maintain records of the meetings.
  • Maintain daily foreman log ensuring all areas are filled out accurately.
  • Attend onsite/offsite meetings with customers as required.
  • Attend supervisor meetings.
  • Ensure adherence to Smook Contractors policies and procedures.
  • Implement disciplinary actions as required.
  • Ensure all safety requirements are strictly enforced.
  • Other duties as assigned.
