Reporting to the Vice President Property Finance, the Director, Operations Finance will lead the Operations Finance team and is responsible for providing financial management and managerial expertise for Retirement residences, acting as the primary liaison for Joint Venture partners, Managed residences and Non-Controllable expenses (Payroll, Utilities, Property Taxes, Insurance, Pharmacy). Oversees the preparation of the monthly payroll, utility, property tax, insurance and pharmacy financial information, review of the monthly working paper files, and providing oversight of Joint Venture reporting and annual audits.
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
Leadership
Drive Operations Finance team members’ engagement through effective recruitment, training, coaching and career development
Act as Chartwell’s lead from the Finance team in all financial matters with Joint Venture partners by maintaining collaborative and effective relationship with key Finance team personnel and other contacts with Joint Venture partners
Provide guidance related to the training of General Managers/Administrators, Director Regional Operations/Director Regional Sales, Operational Consultants as it relates to financial processes.
Develop strong working relationships throughout all levels of the organization
Financial
Oversee financial reporting, including cashflow projections for Joint Venture & Managed properties
Oversee that monthly Non-Controllable expense journal entries, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the financial information is completed on a timely and accurate basis
Review completion of all financial regulatory filings and audits with the health authorities and government agencies
Oversee review working papers and reconciliations summarizing and reporting on any risks, issues, or areas of concerns
Assist in the quarterly reviews and annual audits and Accountable for the coordination of Joint Venture and Managed annual audits
Take the lead in improving efficiencies and automation within the Operations Finance department
Budget
Provide oversight, working with Strategic Planning & Decision Support, Corporate, Property Finance, and Operations teams to ensure budgets are prepared accurately and on a timely basis for Joint Venture and Managed residences, including ensuring appropriate approvals from partners are obtained in a timely manner
Coordinate and prepare budget and forecast presentations for Joint Venture and Managed residences
Oversee the Non-Controllable budgets (payroll, utilities, property taxes, insurance) working collaboratively with the Operations Teams, Labour Relations, and Strategic Planning & Decision Support to ensure budgets are prepared accurately and on a timely basis
Review of the operating budgets for funded revenue
Preparation of Non-Controllable budget presentation
Regulatory Compliance
Coordinate and oversee operational financial regulatory, income tax, commodity tax and other filings for Joint Venture residences, working with Chartwell’s tax department
Coordinate and provide support to the Internal Controls team in managing the SOX compliance requirements for Joint Venture partners
Maintain systems of internal controls for areas of accountability and ensure documentation of such systems is kept up to date
Operational & Administrative
Overall responsibility for accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of financing reporting for Joint Venture partners, including, but not limited to:
Monthly financial statement and variance reports
Cash flow monitoring, reporting and projections
The ideal candidates will possess:
· Related industry experience (preferred)
· Required experience in financial management positions: 10+ years
· Required experience in accounting finance roles: 10+ years
· University degree (Business/Finance related)
· Professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent work experience
· Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP (required).
· Knowledge of industry specific accounting principles (preferred).
· Strong knowledge of various provincial funding models and policies relating to provincial assisted living and Long Term Care health sector (required).
· Strong knowledge of Tenant Protection Act, OLTC Act and Program Manual and similar legislation in other jurisdictions, Strong computer skills – ERP Software, Microsoft Office (required).
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
· Self-motivated, creative and innovative
· Irregular hours may be required.
· Criminal reference check required
· Occasional travel may be required
· French/English Bilingualism (written and oral) preferred
