The College of Veterinarians of BC (CVBC or the College) is a self-governing professional regulatory body created under The Veterinarians Act of the Province of British Columbia. CVBC was established in 2010 through the transformation of the BC Veterinarian Medical Association into the College. The College is governed by a 9-member Board of Directors (the Council) comprised of five veterinarians and four public members and is responsible for ensuring that the public and animals of BC are served by a competent and ethical veterinary profession. CVBC regulates approximately 2,000 veterinarians (registrants) and has an annual budget of approximately $3M, a $4M investment portfolio, and a subsidiary captive insurance company. The College is currently seeking a Registrar to provide leadership and direction to the College and to ensure it fulfills its regulatory responsibilities.

Registrar

The Registrar is appointed by and reports to the College’s Council. This is a diverse role that encompasses four key result areas:

• Ensure that College processes, operations, committees, Regulations and Bylaws, Standards of practice, and Code of Ethics meet the legislative and regulatory mandate to serve and protect the public interest.
• Work with the Council to develop a strategic vision and plan for the College, provide leadership and guidance in developing tactical plans, and ensure strategic initiatives are achieved within agreed upon timelines and budget.
• Build and maintain effective stakeholder relations including the public, government, veterinarians, and other provincial bodies and stakeholder groups.
• Establish and build a strong and collaborative team and manage the effective administration of the College and its operations including human resources, financial management, budgeting, IT, communications, member registration and complaints and investigations.

Requirements

To be considered for this dynamic role you will have a post-secondary degree in Veterinarian Medicine, Agriculture, Animal Science, Medicine or other related discipline and preferably have experience in a regulatory environment. The Registrar must be a strong tech savvy administrator with solid business acumen and knowledge of modern governance practices. As a highly collaborative leader, you are able to build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You also possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to successfully manage conflict and highly sensitive situations.
