Expected Duties:

Instructors have the largest customer interaction of all our staff and need to be motivated and dynamic individuals who enjoy working with people and instructing indoor rock climbing. Instructors not only teach child and adult lessons and clinics; they also work regular shifts at the gym interacting constantly with our climbers.

Specific duties will include:

Using Rock Gym Pro to check customers and sell products

Educating climbers about the gym rules and to competently use our equipment including harnesses and auto belays

Offering new climbers an introduction to bouldering and top roping

Introducing climbing safety to new climbers

Maintain a clean and inviting space for customers which includes, but not limited to: entrance, washrooms, top rope area, preschool area, bouldering areas, climbing floors, party room, front desk and storage area

All around proficiency which includes the following, but not limited to: facility tours, auto-belay orientations, bouldering orientations, bookings, and supervisions of guests

Extremely knowledgeable in Gym of Rock’s pricing, programs, products and procedures

Opening and closing duties with the ability to problem solve independently

Contribute to the optimization of operations, hospitality and customer service procedures

Teaching child and adult technique classes on a variety of topics

Developing a lesson plan for a wide variety of climber abilities

Ideal Pre-requisites:

Experience with customer service

Experience instructing belaying

Extensive experience climbing indoors

Excellent teaching abilities

Phenomenal customer interaction abilities

Professional attitude and an eagerness to share their love of climbing

All Instructors are required to have current first aid training, equivalent to St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid with CPR. Because our employees work with children, Gym of Rock requires all successful candidates to have a criminal record check performed. Gym of Rock will pay the cost of the record check.

It is the intention of Gym of Rock that all instructors obtain certification as a Climbing Gym Instructor, through either the ACMG or CWA. If you do not have any Climbing Gym Instructor certification, you will be expected to demonstrate that you are within reach and qualifications to obtain it. Gym of Rock will pay the cost of this certification for successful candidates*.
