As a member of our Buildings group, you will provide insight and innovative construction solutions to ensure the successful execution of various commercial projects, such as: education facilities; hospitals and healthcare centers; office buildings; warehouse and distribution centers; retail outlets and complexes; recreational facilities; hotels and casinos; parkades; and mixed- use facilities. You will also further hone your skills operating under various delivery methods including Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3 (Public-Private Partnership), Construction Management and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery).
About the Role
Functionally reporting to the SVP HSEQ and Operationally reporting to the EVP of Buildings, the Director Quality is accountable for providing planning, leadership, coordination, and management for the Graham Quality Management System (QMS) development and implementation. The incumbent is accountable for managing all aspects of the Quality processes and programs within an assigned division of Graham, and ensures timely completion and meeting of expectations for all Quality projects and elements, while maintaining long-term stakeholder relationships with operational leaders and managing, mentoring Quality Managers and other team personnel. Key functions include involvement in regulatory QMS audits, review and revision of the QMS, and development and implementation of new Quality Process documents. The incumbent maintains a relentless focus on quality and continuous improvement with the vision of meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations, and is highly proficient with the technical, leadership, and communication skills required to manage a complex QMS with near autonomy.
At Graham some key responsibilities include:
- Ensure that the Quality processes are in place and refined to provide final closeout of projects.
- Maintain relationships and communication tools as needed with suppliers and other key project personnel to verify that the quality of the supplied materials / services can be reasonably assured.
- Develop and communicate the performance standards and metrics by which the quality will be measured.
- Assist with the oversight of development and implementation of an organizational and responsibility matrix for the Quality team.
- Initiate and assist with the development of new Quality protocols and process.
- Establish and implement KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for monitoring the Quality system implementation and effectiveness.
- Maintain accountability for communicating, leading, and lagging KPIs to the organization.
- Develop regular status reports for company executives and project steering committees, detailing status of QMS and recommending actions to be taken.
- Provide contributory support and input to the operations and corporate Quality budget.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Quality AOEs in public and private sector clients, construction joint-venture partners, and key specialist subcontractors, as well as other stakeholders such as design teams, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support Graham core values.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting or exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
- Negotiate skillfully in tough situations with internal and external parties by winning concessions without damaging relationships and by being direct and diplomatic.
- Participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance and promote Graham.
- Execute written correspondence to external parties (clients, partners, government agencies, etc.) on behalf of the company.
- Present information / reports to senior business unit leaders.
- Seek new business opportunities through relationships.
- Demonstrate HSE and Quality behaviors that reflect corporate expectations of Actively Caring and Road to Zero.
- Take personal responsibility for own health and safety, as well as that of other workers, visitors to the site(s), the community, and the environment.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 10-20 years of construction experience. Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity, the years of experience may vary and will require an ability to assist with a large portfolio of projects.
- Completion of 1 to 4 larger-scale projects as a Quality Manager and / or experience managing a large organization’s QMS.
- Strong technical proficiency in Quality-related areas, including ISO 9001, ASME, CWB, related legislation, auditing, and data analysis.
- Ability to make recommendations, take action, and make proactive decisions based on technical proficiency.
- Experience and acumen required to anticipate client requirements, work proactively regarding risk and claim management, and work with full autonomy.
- Superior presentation skills and verbal / written communication skills.
- Proven relationship-building and the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders in a team environment.
- Superior leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with internal & external customers.
- Proficiency using a computer and communication tools such as email, internet, and Microsoft products.
