The West Nipissing General Hospital was built in 1977 and boasts a clean, modern facility, with over 100 beds in operation at any given time. The Hospital operates a 24/7 Emergency Department serviced by General Practitioners, visiting Surgeons, Anesthetists, and Internists.

The West Nipissing General Hospital hosts regular cardiology, urology, nephrology, otolaryngology, endoscopy, surgical lumps & bumps and psychiatry clinics and consultation visits by specialists. There exists an excellent referral relationship between West Nipissing General Hospital and the Regional Health Centre in North Bay and Health Sciences North in Sudbury. The West Nipissing General Hospital is the sponsoring agency for a community Mental Health and Addictions Program.

The West Nipissing General Hospital collaborates with the Ontario Telemedicine Network to provide consultations and follow-up visits with specialists. In addition, Ontario Telemedicine Network hosts numerous education events for both staff members and physicians. The West Nipissing General Hospital offers a satellite Oncology program through the Regional Cancer Program of Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre. Chemotherapy services are provided to the residents of West Nipissing

Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Analyst works collaboratively with Senior Management and Managers to provide business support to the diverse programs operated by the Hospital, which includes acute hospital, long-term care and mental health services.

Job Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours of work: Days (37.5 hours per week)

Work Location: On-site

Salary Range: $85,286.94 to $89,626.45 annually

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare both monthly program level and corporate level financial results that accurately reflect the financial health of the organization
  • Work autonomously to analyze financial results and work with Directors/Managers of an assigned Program or Business Units to interpret and present the financial impact of operational decisions as well as identify areas of process improvement by providing evidence based information to execute decisions and monitor results
  • Work with the program to develop forecasts to capture any emerging trends, cost saving strategies to project budget surplus/ deficit, provide management with analytical trending data and develop an effective method of tracking identify initiatives
  • Work with programs to develop the annual operating and capital budget
  • Develop customized reports and visually impactful presentations for various stakeholders including monthly financial results presentations, reports on key performance indicators, etc
  • Ensure accounting policies used are in compliance with internal policies, MIS Guideline/OHRS guidelines and Canadian GAAP
  • Coordinate, plan and submit reports such as MIS Trial Balance, SRI and other ad-hoc Ministry and Ontario Health submissions

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation required
  • Minimum of 3 years recent/related experience preferably within a hospital finance environment
  • Management Information System (MIS) Standards certificate preferred

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices
  • Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team setting
  • Computer proficiency including databases, word processing, spreadsheet and financial software applications and advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
