Job description: Robert Half is actively searching for an earnest, resourceful Controller/Director to join the innovative team at an prominent non-profit company. In this leadership position, you will oversee an department. and be responsible for financial systems and process’. As the Director or Controller your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Ottawa, Ontario region.

Key responsibilities

– Review and revise deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

– Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

– Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

– Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash

– Perform tasks associated with month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis

– Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

– Perform duties beyond formal job responsibilities

– Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports

– Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

– Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

– Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

– Financial reporting experience

– Business to Business Integration (B2Bi) experience

– Financial System experience

– Expertise in process automation

– Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics experience

– 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

– Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

– Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

– Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

– Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

– Excellent oral and written communication skills

– BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

– Extraordinary analytical, quantitative and social skills

– Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

– Detailed and have the ability work independently

– Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

– Demonstrated ability to build and deliver effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds
