Purpose of Job:

The Manager Governance will play an important role in ensuring the Retail Credit Risk teams exercise sound governance by complying to Global Retail & Small Business Credit Risk Policies, Authority Limit Letters, Committees mandates and Scotiabank’s Risk Appetite.

The Manager Governance:

  • Contributes to the overall success of the Governance team by ensuring specific goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in assist of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted comply with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
  • Is required to have a high degree of analytical and technical knowledge and experience, combined with a strong understanding of retail and small business credit risk policies/processes/lifecyle for International Banking
  • Is liable for the acquisition, organization, validation and reporting of subsidiary data to assist Governance monitoring and decisions

Job Responsibilities:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve/upgrade the current analytical data summary tools and reporting and then implement
  • Understand the applicable regulatory requirements to ensure policies are adequately updated to identify potential control gaps and non-compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Administration of Sharepoint for Global Retail Risk Management

Assist in the development of annual Authority Limits and LRCC mandate proposal

  • Perform quality assurance processes on LRCC and Credit Risk Proposals documentation and report on adherence to mandates.
  • Assist with preparation of periodic status updates and reporting packages to be presented to business, senior management, oversight committees, and other stakeholder groups, as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication with team members and governance stakeholders in Retail Risk.
  • Ensures all reporting, tracking and other forms of documentation are completed in a timely basis and when necessary, assist in compliance and audit reviews.
  • Identify key insights and communicate trends and results to business partners and senior leadership.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Statistics, Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • A minimum three years direct relevant experience banking experience in risk management, audit, or compliance function or similar, preferably within consultancy or financial services industry.
  • Strong understanding of regulations and compliance risks impacting the Bank and the importance of key mitigating controls.
  • Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information and articulates in a precise, organized, and convincing manner.
  • Experience in delivering projects and/or programs.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization.
  • Requires high proficiency in Excel, Power BI, and other MS Office products
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus.
