The Opportunity:

The Manager, Systems & Network Architecture is responsible for managing Network Services, Cybersecurity, ServiceDesk & Software Enablement. This position includes implementation, operation, support, and protection of the organization’s information systems and technologies comprised of System/Network Administrators and ServiceDesk staff. The Manager, Systems & Network Architecture is also responsible to ensure an optimum level of uptime for the entire systems infrastructure, and is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s systems environment, ensuring that it is maintained on a 24/7/365 basis. In addition to this, this individual plays a key role in enabling the organization to best understand and utilize business productivity tools.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leads a multi-faceted team of Network and System Administrators and ServiceDesk Technicians (I, II) with a focus on security and business uptime/ continuity.
  • Responsible for coaching and training, with clear communication of job expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring Challenger’s IRP (Incidence Response Plan) is continually updated and is able to mobilize the team and external vendors into action when needed.
  • Key Champion of all Cybersecurity awareness across the Organization.
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery policies to ensure departments can implement their business continuity plans with limited downtime for the organization.
  • Responsible for Network Hardware and Communications, firewall/switch management, VM management, storage infrastructure, office365, and mobile/landline phone systems.
  • Management of host VM systems (scale computing hyperconverged system), configuration of nodes, host networking, management of virtual machines, snapshotting, replication to DR site and ongoing monitoring.
  • Manage private cloud offsite server infrastructure to ensure maximum performance for hosted application and database software.
  • Manage backup and disaster recovery policies to ensure departments can implement their business continuity plans with limited downtime for the organization.
  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN).
  • Work with outside vendors to complete Security audits and improve the security stature by ensuring patching cadence is meeting or exceeding requirements on all discovered security risks.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support to the Network Services team and act as a primary liaison with other departments to improve interdepartmental support.
  • Work with all required groups regarding IT projects to determine the scope of projects and required time and resources the project will need from Network Services.
  • Lead by example on Documentation: Coach the Network Services team to create documentation for all internal I.T. processes and procedures.
  • Request pricing and quotes to negotiate new equipment, software, and services with vendors.
  • Management and monitoring of security software, escalation of required events.
  • Server and networking infrastructure monitoring and oversight of SMTP logging, ongoing monitoring of network performance and integrity.
  • Configure, install, deploy software, servers, switches, routers and other network devices.
  • Work with channel resellers to perform Annual true up licensing of all Microsoft software used in infrastructure.
  • Perform other duties as required.

What You Need To Be Successful In This Role:

  • Advanced College Diploma or Computer Science Degree
  • 10+ Industry-related experience, as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
  • Microsoft Certifications are strongly preferred
  • Networking skills or certifications from Fortinet, Cisco, or Juniper
  • Previous Leadership or applicable experience preferred
  • Valid driver license is required as occasional travel is required to remote office locations
  • Project planning experience with strategic development and Agile development practices
  • Advanced MS Office skills, in-depth knowledge of Excel and other organization tools
  • Highly developed understanding of industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • High level problem solving and communication skills
  • Solid background in network administration and architecture
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision-making, negotiation, delegation and project management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff

  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools)
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS)
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, Office 365 and SQL
  • Experience administering virtual infrastructure technology
  • Solid understanding of IP networking and Information Security
  • Considerable knowledge in current Microsoft desktop/server operating systems
  • Strong understanding of PowerShell and other scripting technologies
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center components would be beneficial
  • Certifications in Comptia A+, Comptia Network +, MCSE, SharePoint, Office 365, Azure and various cloud technologies considered an asset

Required Competencies:

  • Being comfortable with a range of devices (smartphones, iOS and Android mobile devices) for testing and / or deployment of applications.
  • Knowledge of using Telecom systems (PBX, MX, IP Office, Configuration Facility) using Fibernetics NEWT, CS1000, CallPilot, Contact Center, Voicemail Pro, and MX admin.
  • Detail and deadline oriented, with the ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Plan and participate in the design, development, implementation and support of infrastructure systems and technologies.
  • Participate in all ongoing cyber-security initiatives including interfacing with MSSP providers.
  • Provide 2nd level technical support to the service desk team in resolving various IT service issues.
  • Lead software enablement initiatives within the organization to foster the efficient use of and maximization of business productivity tools.
  • Assist in the implementation of technology changes including account setups, account access, and permission changes.
  • Monitor system performance, disk and memory utilization, and applications to ensure that the production environment is running at peak performance.
  • Participate in maintaining and supporting the corporate network infrastructure including all network equipment.
  • Create and update deployment packages and application deployments for various software using SCCM and Group Policy.
  • Troubleshoot LAN/WAN/VPN connectivity and performance issues with remote sites.
  • Plan and implement disaster recovery strategies to ensure high availability of network and server infrastructure and business continuity.
  • Document and maintain system configurations, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Maintain business relationships with key vendors including negotiating purchases and service contract renewals.
  • Meet with project stake holders assisting in the planning and implementation of IT and company projects.
  • Participate in all ongoing cyber-security initiatives including interfacing with MSSP providers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and upgrade patches for servers and vendor software.
  • Manage Office 365/Azure AD, applications, systems, security, user access.
  • Assist in the implementation of technology changes including account setups, account access, and permission changes.
