Job Description
A new and exciting opportunity exists for a permanent, full-time Social, Housing and Community Development Manager to join the Community and Protective Services team. This position will be instrumental in overseeing and updating the Kamloops Social Plan, and developing a housing strategy team that positions the City of Kamloops to lead the identification, planning and prioritization of all housing initiatives. This will require extensive and proven leadership experience working with a number of City departments, community service providers and levels of government. The successful candidate requires advanced communication skills, knowledge of community engagement strategies, research methodologies, and understanding of community planning.
Typical duties of this position include:
- Oversees the social, housing and community development division to ensure that two Supervisors are fully engaged in supporting the development of community resources and programming.
- Develops a housing strategy team that positions the City of Kamloops to lead the identification, planning and prioritization of all housing initiatives.
- Works closely with community groups and committees.
- Establishes and oversees administrative procedures to meet the requirements of funding received through various streams of government.
- Oversees the development of community resources and programming that improve access to housing, primary healthcare services, safe and secure neighbourhoods, food security, access to childcare resources, and coordinating emergency support services when required.
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications: * Completion of a Masters degree that is research-based in a related field.
- Minimum five to seven years of previous experience in a leadership position.
- Minimum five years previous experience in community development.
- Extensive research and public policy experience.
- Extensive and proven experience in community engagement.
- Experience in a leadership role on a community committee.
- Class 5 B.C. drivers license or equivalent.
