RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
Under the direction of the principal investigator (Dr. Bryan Ross), the research associate participates in the execution of several health-informatics and prospective clinical research projects, as well as associated administrative tasks, data preparation and statistical analysis, and scientific writing.

General Duties

  • Supports and supervises members of the lab with their research projects,
  • Actively leads and executes a limited number of ‘priority’ research projects,
  • Is responsible for various administrative tasks (including budgets, management of meetings, REB preparation/ submission/approval, and grant/protocol writing),
  • Autonomously performs statistical analyses, including proficiency in regression-based statistics as well as in artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) methodology,
  • Oversees and drafts a scientific manuscript.

Education / Experience

Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Education and/or experience with wearable biometric sensors/devices, remote patient monitoring, and AI/ML algorithm development.
Health Sciences background would be an asset but is not mandatory.

Work Experience:

  • Experience and autonomy in statistical software and data analysis, and in the generation of AI/ML-based algorithms/platforms ,
  • Prior experience as a research associate, including in the execution/completion of research projects and in supervisory roles, would be an asset ,
  • Experience in the conduct of clinical research (participant recruitment, data collection and quality assurance, data analysis, and manuscript generation) would be an asset.

Other Requirements:

  • Fluency in spoken and written French (ex. to facilitate/support participant recruitment activities and REB submission) would be a strong asset but is not mandatory,
  • Capacity to recruit and/or coordinate the recruitment of patient participants, to train participants on the use of wearable and remote monitoring devices, and to collect and monitor the quality of the data collected and troubleshoot if necessary,
  • Autonomy in data preparation and statistical analysis, including using AI/ML methodologies, is mandatory,
  • Strong communication skills including excellent scientific writing,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work independently or with teams with minimal supervision.

Additional information

Status: Temporary Part-Time, 12 hours per week
Pay Scale: $29.12 – $54.08 per hour, commensurate with education & work experience
Work Shift: 1pm to 5 pm (three half-days/week)
