Reporting to the Manager(s) of the Women and Children′s Program, the candidate will be responsible for managing both antepartum, post-partum and outpatient activity related to infant feeding and newborn care at the Centenary and General hospitals at SHN. The individual will possess the knowledge, skills and judgement on infant feeding and must be able to teach and educate patients and their families on evidence based best practices virtually and/or in person. The candidate will be responsible for sustaining and maintaining the work related to BPSO candidacy. The individual will partake in audits, data collection, policy updates and reporting related to Women and Children′s BPG and BPSO guidelines and BORN criteria. This individual must encompass strong leadership skills and advocate for best practices related to infant feeding. The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will be responsible for obtaining infant feeding data and reporting the information to the Women and Children′s Leadership team.
The successful applicant will be required to work across all SHN hospitals.
Requirements:
- Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification based on the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Standards
- Current Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification
- Minimum two years current maternal-child nursing experience
- Competent with capillary heel poke blood collection
- Knowledge and comfort assessing for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia
- Knowledge and comfort in development and assessment feeding plans
- Demonstrated ability and comfort utilizing and teaching lactation aids
- Comfortable navigating and leading virtual appointments and/or education sessions via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and/or other options available
- Demonstrated clinical problem-solving skills and ability to apply neonatal knowledge, skills and judgement
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in infant feeding and lactation management
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and the principles of adult education
- Experience in preparation of protocols, standards and guidelines
- Previous experience in program development
- Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
- Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgement
- Demonstrated physical ability to perform nursing and related duties
- Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community
- Demonstrated ability with conflict resolution and problem solving
