The Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Leading Maintenance Person Certified to join our team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent – Heavy Maintenance Services, you will direct and perform all aspects of routine mechanical maintenance and repair work on equipment throughout the Heavy Maintenance Shop with a good understanding of the electrical components and civil works.

As a Leading Maintenance Person Certified:
- You must be able to work effectively as a member of the Hydro Team and be capable of functioning in a planned work environment.
- You will be responsible to assist and support the superintendent with leading and directing a highly skilled work team on a daily basis and may be assigned acting duties of the superintendent in his/her absence from time to time.
- You will be expected to participate in continuous improvement activities and to support all aspects of the work planning process.
- You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
- You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites for extended periods of time.
- You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
- You will assure compliance with environmental regulations as they relate to the Hydro Environmental Management System (EMS).
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

- Certification as a Journeyperson Maintenance Person Certified with a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in modern mechanical maintenance in a generating station, process industry or equivalent industry is required.
- You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
- You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands.
- Self-motivation and demonstrated ability of strong leadership skills are essential – Speaks up on Health & Safety, Thinks Strategically, Develops People & Teams.
- You must have the skills and physical capabilities to perform all duties, including working at considerable heights, confined spaces and within watercourses.
- Experienced with formal Preventative Maintenance Programs, Predictive Maintenance Programs, Failure Analysis and Maintenance Training Programs will be a strong asset.
- Experience and/or certification as an overhead crane operator or experience with alignment of rotating equipment would be considered assets.
- You must possess a valid driver’s license, locate your primary residence within an acceptable travel time to your reporting location and be available for after-hour emergency service restoration.
