Job description: The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for Academic General Internal Medicine Physician specializing in Obstetrical Medicine to be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Department of Medicine is a recognized leader in innovative education, world-class research and outstanding patient care. It is the largest department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and the biggest at the University of Alberta. More than 800 academic and clinical faculty, students, residents and fellows help achieve our goal of improving health and health care locally and globally. These efforts are supported by more than 300 health, technical and support staff. The Department includes 14 divisions and serves communities throughout Northern Alberta and parts of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. General Internal Medicine is a key contributor to the Department, specializing in the care delivery for patients with complex, multisystem disease in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as making integral contributions to the education and research mandate of the Department.

The successful candidate will have an MD degree, or equivalent. He or she will be eligible to be certification in General Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada. As well, he or she will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Individuals interested in the education of trainees and a strong interest in research are encouraged to apply. Key deliverables of the role will include(but not limited to) developing and executing a strong academic research program in Obstetrical Medicine, local, national and international collaborations; high-volume, high-impact research output; securing peer-reviewed funding in the field; supervising and mentoring graduate students, clinical trainees, and junior faculty; clinical care delivery in Obstetrical Medicine.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
