Job title: Accountant, Operations

Job description: Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy in North America, is looking for an Accountant, Operations to join our team. The Accountant, Operations is responsible for day to day, as well as month end, Canada finance and accounting duties. The primary focus of this role will be on treasury accounting & general accounting. While performing the tasks, the analyst is expected to look for process improvements leading to quicker turnaround times, transparent reporting, and improved customer service.

Here’s what you will do as an Accountant at Spark Power:

• Performing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations
• Performing monthly credit card reconciliations
• Maintaining fixed asset workbooks and calculating and posting monthly depreciation
• Balance Sheet variance analysis and month end balance sheet reconciliation
• Preparation of the sales tax returns
• Regularly reviewing inventory and accrued purchases accounts and investigating discrepancies
• Assisting with analysis of SG&A P&L financial review
• Assistance with external audits (as needed)
• Posting and reviewing journal entries (prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, payroll)
• Other ad hoc duties as assigned
• Host a weekly cadence meetings with your staff. (Asset Manager / Project Manager meeting)

Do you have the Spark? Here’s what we are looking for:

• Education – University degree or Diploma in Accounting/Finance is preferred or 3-5 years of related experience
• CPA designation or working towards a CPA designation is preferred
• Strong concepts of accounting fundamentals
• Experience with month-end accounting processes
• Experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a positive attitude
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Ability to work independently
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize assigned tasks
• Demonstrated ability to meet defined deadlines and KPIs
• Eager and career-oriented attitude with a desire to grow professionally
• Ability to work in a hybrid work model
