Job Location: Greater Toronto Area, Ontario

Job Overview:
The Assistant General Manager will work closely with and report directly to the General Manager to support, manage, and oversee operations within their assigned province while fostering the BEST culture, mission, and values. The main responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the execution of short and long-term strategic plans, coaching, developing, and mentoring the Operations Team, monitoring Key Performance Indicators to recognize areas of improvement and provide HR guidance while ensuring a culture of safety and wellbeing throughout the company.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the General Manager with regional operations to ensure a positive and safe work environment by adopting and cultivating BEST’s cultural values, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and implementing environmentally sustainable business practices in accordance with BEST’s guidelines.
  • Hire, train, lead, develop and build long-term relationships with the Operations Team to drive revenue, growth, and productivity through regular coaching and mentoring, annual and quarterly reviews/check-ins, and succession planning.
  • Effectively communicate company initiatives in a timely manner to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage changing priorities with a thorough understanding of business needs.
  • Meet clients regularly to establish high-level relationships.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor regional budget and labour plans to control costs and recommend improvement plans based on client and operational needs.
  • Develop and implement account renewal strategies with the Operations Team, clients, and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement new account start-up plans based on budgets, labour, and contract requirements.
  • Research changes in innovation, perform ROI analysis, and support the adoption and implementation as required.
  • Enhance procedures and service systems to meet regional goals and industry trends.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel regularly as business needs dictate.
  • Other duties, as required, to support contractual needs and business growth.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years’ work experience with a focus on service, financials, budgets, safety, labor relations with trade unions, and Human Resources.
  • Business related post-secondary degree.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Strategic Financial Management experience.
  • Proposal/tender based/consultative sales experience.
  • Experience in creating and implementing change to management strategies and plans that maximize employee adoption and usage and minimizes resistance.
  • Proven history of people development and succession planning.

Skills Required:

  • Advanced understanding of income statements, forecasting, budgets, inventory management, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Employment Standards Act, Labor Relations Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as experience with implementing and maintaining health and safety programs.
  • Strong understanding of personnel policies, practices, and procedures in a service environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing customer relationships and meeting sales objectives.
  • Intrinsic ability to effectively analyze, plan, prioritize, negotiate, and execute strategic business goals.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a focus on operations management, problem solving and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback through active coaching.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office 365.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a Canadian security screening for “Reliability” and “Secret” clearance.
  • Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving abstract.
