Job description: The Opportunity: Maple Leaf Foods Brandon is looking for people with a Production/Sanitation background who are looking for an exciting development opportunity. Reporting to the General Supervisor, these future leaders will have additional leadership and project responsibilities for which they will be recognized and compensated for. Assistant General Supervisors are in an active succession planning role.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to hourly Production employees in the assigned department
  • Support, and in the absence of the General Supervisor, direct leadership to the supervisory team
  • Ensure effective implementation and compliance with all Health and Safety initiatives and programs
  • Work with the General Supervisor to ensure open and effective communications with other Production and functional areas to maximize production efficiencies and yields
  • Provide guidance and training to new Production Supervisors to the area
  • Project team member for continuous improvement initiatives in technology, upgrading equipment/materials, purchasing, and quality programs.
  • Work collaboratively with HR to administer terms of the collective agreement and to foster employee engagement
  • Ensure effective implementation and compliance with all Food Safety initiatives
  • Accountable for timely and accurate reports and for the operating budgets for the department

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience with proven performance management and leadership skills
  • Relevant post-secondary education would be an asset
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills to progress into a senior role
  • Flexibility to work AM, PM, or Nights – and the keen desire to be exposed to various areas of the plant
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, team building skills
  • Strong English language skills (verbal, written, reading)
  • Proven commitment to good manufacturing practices; knowledge of HACCP and Provincial Health and Safety Regulations are an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise effective judgment in business decisions
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong computer skills
