Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Customer Service – Revenue, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the team. This position is rotational between cashiering services and communication with the public on an ongoing basis through various media including outbound callbacks, email and investigation of property tax accounts.

This position will be required to work in a hybrid work arrangement (work from home and some work in the office). Our offices are located at Mississauga City Hall, 300 City Centre Drive, Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Process and maintain information changes to property tax accounts provided by Teranet, the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation, Financial institutions and property owners while ensuring the integrity of the tax system and City by-laws.
  • Research and respond to inquiries from taxpayers, lawyers, mortgagees and agents received through various media such as email and INFOR.
  • Process tax certificates, local improvement letters, Statement of taxes, duplicate bills and Tax Receipt requests received and ensure appropriate fees are received and deposited.
  • Process various transactions received at Cashiers through regular mail and inter-office mail, including cheque payments and credit card payments.
  • Balance transactions for daily deposit and prepare cash summary sheets.
  • Will be required to rotate between office duties, Cashiers and working remotely. Shift hours rotate start time of 8:00am and an end time of 4:30pm.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on accounting, business or public administration.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in municipal tax or an equivalent of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of, or enrolment in, the Municipal Tax Administration Program is an asset.
  • Aptitude for figures and the ability to carry out tax calculations; excellent data entry and organizational skills are required.
  • Cashiering experience is an asset.
  • Ability to decipher and analyze requests, investigate property tax accounts and solve complex problems using analytical thought process.
  • Flexibility for shifts and understanding of the the urgency of certain duties is also required to ensure daily tasks are completed.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public on an ongoing basis and work well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with TXM Tax Manager and INFOR software programs are an asset,

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 50,784.00 – $ 67,713.00
