As part of our Planning and Permitting team within Traffic Operations, you’ll be the face and driving force behind our bike education and encouragement initiatives. You will have the opportunity to interact with the public through City led ridealongs, at presentations, and events around the city!
With a focus on the to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Lead and deliver various cycling and micro mobility (shared e-scooter / e-bikes) education and encouragement programs
- In collaboration with your team, you will develop and deliver program activities, and coordinate event logistics for the City’s bike education and encouragement programs which include cycling ridealongs, presentations and events
- Report on outreach activities including collecting and sharing metrics and help identify the impact and improvements for future activations
- Assist with the overall safety of participants in bike education programs and activations, while supporting accessibility for different learners and micro mobility users
- Respond to resident inquiries, concerns and questions about the bicycle education programs
- Work directly with residents, businesses and other external stakeholders (including adults and children) as well as other Bike Street Educators
- Assist with other Vibrant Streets programs which connect to micro mobility and the Bike Plan, including the patio program, parking and decorative traffic control boxes
- Work to increase awareness and understanding of the rules of the road and how to navigate Edmonton’s Active Transportation Network
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Grade 12
- Completion of the first year of a recognized Recreation Administration or related diploma or degree program would be an asset
- Minimum one year of direct experience leading recreational, cultural or related educational programs
- Experience in cycling focused education or leading cycling ride alongs is an asset
- Experience leading and/or facilitating meetings and delivering presentations is an asset
- Standard First Aid, and CPR is an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to instruct, organize and supervise group activities
- Ability to participate in and to use equipment and materials effectively (Riding bicycle, e-bicycle, and e-scooter)
- Comfortable using a bike to get around downtown and comfortable riding up to 20 km in one day
- Proficiency in Google Applications
- Demonstrated customer service mindset
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position

Up to 4 temporary full-time positions for up to 8 months
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week. Wednesday to Sunday but may change depending on events. Evening and weekend work is frequent.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary Range: $21.793 – $26.928 (Hourly)
