Summary:
The Intermediate IT Business Analyst is a key facilitator within IT, acting as a bridge between the business unit affected, organizational stakeholders, and the solution team. The key accountability of the BA is to apply their knowledge to examine the business need and ensure a timely and effective solution is provided to satisfy that need. The IT Business Analyst will use their knowledge of the business and the solution domain (Service Management) to become an advocate for the business and ensure the need is valid, understood, and met. The Business Analyst will also support SOX and audit activities within IT and ensuring coordination between audit groups and those who own and perform controls.
Responsibilities:
- Business Analysis
- Collaborates with stakeholders to collect the relevant information and document the business opportunity for the sponsor to propose a new project to the organizational investment governance body, project brief
- Collaborates with both the Business and IT Project managers in the development of Project Charters, Business Cases, and other project deliverables including but are limited to conceptual business process design specifications; business / functional requirement documents, use cases and process models
- Works closely with the business unit to model the current and future state of business process utilizing TransAlta’s standard process modeling methodology
- Analyzes business problems, identify and documents system processes and deficiencies, recommends solutions to meet the needs of the business and organizational goals
- Collaborates with the Business stakeholders in defining business requirements and works with IT stakeholders to specify/design, develop and implement appropriate business solutions
- Explains/demonstrates business requirements / specifications to IT development and Enterprise architecture teams
- Provides business process analysis, mapping and re-design support for key business process improvement initiatives
- SOX Coordination
- Management of day-to-day activities within IT for SOX compliance, evidence collection coordination and control education
- Facilitating and communicating requirements for interim and year-end walkthroughs, ensuring communication lines are clear between auditors and IT performers/owners
- Escalating issues and follow ups as required for remediations, deficiencies, etc.
- Updating and refreshing SOX controls as required (i.e. verbiage changes)
- Collecting miscellaneous evidence for auditors as required (e.g. org. charts, access requests)
Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree, with a major in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or Communications disciplines
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel
- A broad understanding of the IT infrastructure that supports the business
- A detail-oriented individual who can bring enthusiasm and innovation to project teams
- Willingness to work co-operatively with others to achieve team goals and objectives
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong written, verbal and organizational skills
- Comfortable working in both a team environment and with minimal supervision
