Role:

The Business Development Manager is responsible for providing a strategic and focused approach to prospecting and on-boarding new profitable customers. This individual is also responsible for a successful transition of new customers to the chosen sales associate. This position will focus in Alberta South, and East Kootenays including Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Cranbrook and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for Business Development for independent sales and local contract sales in the local and surrounding area.
  • Responsible for achieving an annual target in realized sales and annualized sales for fiscal year comprised of brand-new customers to Sysco as a well as a potential target list of lost customers to Sysco.
  • Strategizing and coordinating with internal resources and departments to ensure customer service and financial objectives are developed and achieved for business development customers.
  • Coordinating and leading all activities and resources for targeted accounts. Following-up on all next step agreements.
  • Understanding our customers’ business and providing value-added solutions through products, services, tools, and information to help them succeed. Educating, promoting and leveraging these resources to build business with targeted accounts.
  • Working closely with potential customers, initiating business development opportunities and following up on business retention after transfer to the District Sales Manager’s Team.
  • Establish positive working relationships with all departments in the Region.
  • Assist in business recovery where required.
  • Peer coaching of Sales associates on an ongoing basis.
  • Working closely with Site Local Sales Director on prospect leads, development and assignment of customers to a sales associate when successful.
  • Utilizes CRM tool (Sysco 360) as communication and measurement tool.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5+) years’ work experience in a business development or sales role. Experience in the food service industry is an asset.
  • Degree or Diploma in a business-related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Must understand profitability, P&L statements, and managing expenses.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills using negotiation processes and gaining agreement of others.
  • Formal presentation experience to small and large groups.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver License and reliable vehicle.
  • Bilingualism considered an asset.
  • Proficient in preparing a Pre-tax Assessment for prospects to maximize the profitability to Sysco.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required
  • Travel is local. Incumbent must commute using their personal vehicle to customer locations.
