Summary
Within the context of a patient, client and family centred model of care and, in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Providence Health Care, promotes a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for patients, residents, families, visitors and staff.
Reporting to the Operations Leader and working under the clinical direction of the Cardiology Supervisor or designate, performs Electrocardiogram (ECG) testing including tilt table and stress testing, stress echos, holter monitoring and related procedures such as scanning, analyzing and selecting portions of the test strips and summarizing for interpretation by physicians. Obtains medical history of patient and explains test procedures. Evaluates test results and provides test information to medical staff for interpretation. Ensures equipment is functioning and supply inventory is sustained to appropriate levels. Performs related duties such as booking patient appointments, maintaining billing records and keeping statistics as required.
Qualifications / Skills and Education
Education
Completion of a recognized Cardiology Technology Program at the Diploma level, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists (CSCT) Certified.
Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course.
Valid BC Driver’s License may be required. Travel will require the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage will be paid per the collective agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of cardiology tests such as ECGs, tilt table and stress testing, analyzing data, recording, and reporting relevant data for interpretation by a physician. Performs duties such as attaching electrodes to the patient for the purpose of holter monitoring, and operating related equipment.
- Scans and analyzes ECG, stress and holter monitor test strips by performing duties such as selecting and assessing portions of test strips and summarizing for interpretation by physician.
- Monitors telephone recordings, analyzes data and notifies physicians of abnormalities; contacts patients by telephone for repeat recordings as required.
- Communicates with patients in order to explain scheduled procedures, and answer questions. Ensures physicians and members of the health care team have knowledge of relevant information.
- Obtains medical history from patient, family and/or file to document manually and/or electronically information such as patient demographics, test protocols, vital signs and drugs administered.
- Administers medications by performing duties such as assessing patient’s condition, applying oxygen mask, spraying nitroglycerin under the patient’s tongue, regulating infusion of the medication and providing inhalers under the direction of a physician.
- Participates in maintaining a sufficient supply inventory for the area by checking supplies on hand against re-order points and notifying supervisor when supplies are required.
- Performs a variety of duties including booking appointments using established systems, filing and retrieving patient reports, answering inquiries on the phone or in person, editing physician reports based on physician feedback, maintaining billing records and statistics.
- Maintains equipment through methods such as cleaning equipment and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment and reporting equipment problems using established procedures.
- Attends and participates in departmental meetings including those related to continuous quality improvement initiatives, provides feedback, recommends improvements and solutions. Assists with updating of policies and procedures as required.
- Maintains broad knowledge of developments related to the Cardiology field, by methods such as reviewing relevant literature, and participating in courses and workshops as required.
- Performs phlebotomy procedures for both in and out patients by performing duties such as explaining procedures to the patient, answering questions, taking blood samples and labeling for processing in the Laboratory.
- Assists with orientation of new staff and/or students by demonstrating procedures and techniques and providing feedback as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
