Position Purpose Summary:

This position provides required light maintenance services to Tisdale community and family services and thrift store ensuring the building and site environment is healthy and comfortable.

This is a part-time position at 10-15 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday, and schedule will be set with the supervisor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking.
  • Safely stores, cleans, and maintain all related equipment and supplies in the storage spaces provided. Equipment used includes lawn mower, leaf blower, ladder, shovel, snowblower.
  • Keep the exterior of the building safe and in good basic repair.
  • Checks doors and windows to ensure building security.
  • May perform light maintenance to furniture and spaces.
  • Performs miscellaneous minor maintenance, e.g., ensuring that exterior light fixtures are equipped with operable bulbs, securing of outside benches/picnic tables, patio furniture, etc.
  • Performs small repairs/patching to drywall, painting patches etc. on interior of building.
  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, cleaning washrooms and restocking supplies, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums.
  • Informs supervisor of general repairs and maintenance items required.
  • Lifts and moves furniture as requested.
  • Attends mandatory training and specialized work training when scheduled.
  • Attends meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of some High School.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • At least 3 months of related experience including life skills, general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Must be physically able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, being on their feet all day.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs, push, and pull various items such as custodial equipment, furniture, and other items.
  • Able to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools.
  • Able to climb, and work from, ladders at heights of up to 15 feet.
  • Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.
  • Self-directed and able to take initiative and communicate and work well with people.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Required to work at Tisdale community family services and thrift store, inside the facilities and surrounding property.
  • Exposed to weather as work is done indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Moving furniture, pushing, and pulling, as well as lifting items up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to odours, toxic chemicals, electrical hazards, and infectious diseases.
  • May deal with angry or aggressive people and may experience verbal abuse, and less likely physical attacks.
  • Exposed to washrooms (human waste).
  • Risk of needle pricks, back injuries, and repetitive strain injuries.
