Job title: Clinical Extern – Extended Class
Job description: The Clinical Extern – Extended Class is an unregulated care provider, in the inpatient care units at HHS. As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern – Extended Class will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience. Clinical Externs – Extended Class are involved in delivering care to our patients, which include head to toe assessments and vital signs, promoting patient safety through falls risk assessments and skin assessments, help with activities of daily living, and other clinical interventions as assigned or delegated by the team. The Clinical Extern – Extended Class will also contribute to phlebotomy and specimen collection, reinforce health teaching and/or assist with discharge planning, support continuous quality improvement activities on the unit, and support the interdisciplinary team, as appropriate. Clinical Externs – Extended Class will report to the Unit Manager under which they are assigned, work under the direction of regulatory staff members during the shift, and receive support and mentorship from the Clinical Extern Coordinator team.
The Clinical Extern – Extended Class position is open to international medical graduates or internationally trained physicians with a minimum of one year direct patient care experience.
Qualifications
- Completion of an international medical education program MD, MBBS or DO degree
- Minimum 1 year direct patient care experience in an acute care setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient care and patient assessment
- Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
- Completion or registration of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program
- Demonstrated effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated ability to function within an interdisciplinary team, including nursing collaboration with RN and other members of the heath care team
- Demonstrated independence, a positive attitude, and problem-solving/critical thinking abilities
- Ability to perform responsibilities in a courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to HHS standards
- Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
- Proficient in the use of computers
- Previous EMR experience an asset
- Compliance with confidentiality requirements under HHS Privacy Policy
- May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
