Job description: Overview
The Analytics Data Services department of WorkSafeBC is looking for two highly motivated, innovative, and customer-focused Co-op student, Analytics Solutions Engineer, with a keen interest in data-science, strategic analysis, and program evaluation to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.
As a co-op student, you’ll contribute to the effectiveness of WorkSafeBC by providing business intelligence, analysis/analytical advice, and decision support to an assigned area of business. You will also assist in conducting research, strategic analysis, advanced analytics, ad hoc & operational reporting, and the evaluation of a wide variety of issues (e.g., occupational health and safety, financial risk exposure, regulation/policy effectiveness, and disability claims management) by using various sources of business data (internal and external data sources) and communicating those findings and related interpretations/observations to a variety of audiences.
This is a four-month temporary opportunity beginning in January 2024 with a possibility of extending to 8 months.

Where you’ll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in one of our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you’ll work primarily from your B.C. home and at a minimum of once per month in our Richmond office.
What you’ll do
- Identify and define problems, develop and describe research questions, and develop sound and novel approaches to problem solving and propose recommendations and business solutions.
- Work directly with complex data and apply advanced analytics and statistical methods to improve business decision making, measure and evaluate business performance, and identify opportunities to enhance and/or optimize business effectiveness.
- Work closely with the business on project teams to conceptualize, develop, and implement business intelligence / advanced analytics solutions focused on delivering actionable strategic intelligence and insights.
- Organize, plan and facilitate meetings with the business and BIA partners such as Information Technology, Business Advisory Services and Communications & Marketing.
- Prepare clear and concise business documents and presentations, successfully translating complex and technical information into concepts the business representatives can understand and action.

Your background and experience
- Enrolled in any of the following majors or specializations: Business Technology Management (
), Business Analytics and Decision Making, Data Science, Finance – , Computer Science, Consulting & Strategic Management, Accounting, Statistics/Mathematics, or Operations Management/Research, or Business Analytics. * Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office: MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, Visio, Adobe Suite, Outlook.
- Experience in database, reporting, or statistical tools would be an asset: Power BI, SSRS, SQL, Tableau, Business Objects / SAP – Web Intelligence, Xcelsius, Crystal Reports, SPSS, SAS, Python, R, Microstrategy, Microsoft Reporting Services, Performance Point.
- Working knowledge in data engineering design and implementation including expertise in ETL languages (e.g. SQL, Python), ETL and data ingestion pipelines, analytics data modelling, data store architectures, and analytics data platform administration.
