Summary

This position reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.

The Portage facility is one of five plants (Caldwell, ID; Grand Forks, ND; Moses Lake, WA; and Othello, WA) within the processed potatoes division of the Food Group Division of the J.R. Simplot Company that produces food service French fries, granulated dehydrated mashed potatoes, shredded and southern style hash browns and specialty products.

The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of the Cold Storage area, along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. It is imperative the person(s) conduct themselves in a manner that ensures alertness and constant awareness of the safe operation of equipment and its surroundings.

This position will assist in daily warehouse activities as required such as aiding and de-aiding of product, forklift driving, relocation of products, operate push/pull equipment, inventory control counts, housekeeping and issuing required paperwork.

The individual in this position will accomplish these tasks by utilizing a team concept through working with team members and following direction and instructions from the Warehouse Team Leader and Warehouse Supervisor.

Work relationships and communications are key ingredients to the success of the individual holding this position.

Overtime requirements in this position are common and may be required to meet operational goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Completes forklift safety training course before starting any other training.

2. Ensures the movement of finished product in a safe and secure manner.

3. Ensures compliance with all applicable Company and Division practices and procedures outlined in the Warehouse and Plant policies and procedures.

4. Ensures the adherence to the daily forklift checklist procedure for its safe operation and maintenance as established by the Company.

5. Accurately monitor the movement of cased product and bulk bins, both incoming and outgoing, from packaging and daily shipping activities.

6. Utilizes the computerized inventory system (Data Collection System) accurately, and ensures that all documents and reports are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

7. Ensures that sanitation conditions are maintained and shippable finished goods are in compliance with Company and Federal Food Safety Standards.

8. Ensures proper operation of forklifts by changing batteries on forklift, and checking brake and hydraulic oil in all forklifts.

9. Ensures attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position and to incorporate acquired skills and knowledge.

10. Ensures no injury to self or others by following safe work practices and policies.

11. Ensures self-compliance with Company policies and procedures.

12. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style conducive with operational goals.

13. Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function and while representing the company.

Typical Education

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Relevant Experience

1+ years related experience and/or training

​1. Preference is to have a minimum of six (6) months as a Production Forklift Operator; or a minimum of 6 months of experience as a cold storage/warehouse forklift operator within the past three years; or equivalent forklift experience.

2. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in a manner to successfully perform the job duties.

3. Must demonstrate basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

4. Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds.

5. Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills.

6. Must be able to work in extreme environments (cold, hot, wet and dry), inside and outside of warehouse area.

7. Must be able to distinguish different colours.

8. Must have successfully passed the Forklift Certification Training Course, including demonstration of driving skills and written exam.

9. Must be able to work in high places and confined areas.

10. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

11. Must have an acceptable safety record.

​12. Must have an acceptable attendance record.
