About Our Opportunity
In the role under the Agricultural Marshland Conservation Act, NSDA is legislated to supervise and manage the agricultural dykeland assets for agricultural purposes. The agricultural dykelands consist of 239 kilometres of dyke and 248 aboiteaux along the Bay of Fundy and protects 17,400 hectares of land located on 81 agricultural marshlands and 10 water control structures (dams). This Dykeland System protects agricultural land, but also protects significant private and public non-agriculture infrastructure that are vital to the economy and security of the Province.
Primary Accountabilities
In this role the duties include:
- Review, follow and update Operational and Maintenance Program to ensure it is current for dyke system operations.
- Inspections and maintenance on dykes, marshes and aboiteaux structures, completing inspection reports and budget oversight for planned works.
- Construction supervision of projects.
- Demonstrated experience with OH&S program and required documentation
- Experience using computers and programs such as Outlook and Microsoft Office programs is essential for daily activities.
- Experience supervising staff, including scheduling work and conflict resolution. Dealing with the public is required, which can include confrontation or complex situations.
- Demonstrates initiative and project management skills as well as seeking out/completing training that will assist with the position.
- Have knowledge of working in a tidal environment, tide forecasting and impacts, practical knowledge of working with various types of heavy equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
As the successful candidate, you have a 2-year Engineering Technology Course plus 5 years related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable. Post -secondary training in a construction related field would be an asset.
For this role, you must have a thorough knowledge of working in a tidal environment, coastal construction, tide forecasting and impacts, working on marshland soils, construction skills, practical knowledge of working with various types of heavy equipment under varying conditions related to Dykeland System work (frost, wet conditions, weather, slippery slopes, and access of equipment to and from the work site).
Experience using computers and programs such as Outlook and Microsoft Office programs is also essential for daily activities.
In addition to the above, this position requires the successful candidate to live within a 20-minute response time, who is able to trouble shoot and implement solutions based on known internal policies and procedures.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Additional Information
This is a Casual employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of February, 2022. The appointment status (‘term’, ‘temporary’ or ‘casual’) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.
Please note, as the successful candidate, you must be able to respond to the worksite, be available for stand-by, call back, and/or emergencies at short notice and therefore must live within 20 minutes of the Windsor Aboiteaux.
A valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
