Job Description:
We are hiring for Phase 4 of the Kicking Horse Canyon program based in beautiful Golden, British Columbia. Golden is renowned for its breath-taking mountain setting and easy access to word class skiing, hiking, and outdoor adventures nestled in the heart of the beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Phase 4 program will extend until the end of 2023. We have been instrumental in completing the first 3 phases of the 26 km roadway, with 21 KM already completed. This phase of the design/build project includes roadway reconstruction and expansion through the canyon, which is part of the Trans-Canada highway between Alberta and British Columbia.
This particular roadway is narrow, with steep drop offs, and carries 10,000 vehicles per day during peak summer months. This project will involve the expansion of 4 KM of roadway from 2 lanes to 4 in difficult mountainous and rock terrain through the canyon, which will include rock blasting in challenging terrain, with possible structures and retaining walls to protect against rock hazards, as well as utility relocation and traffic maintenance while executing construction that starts in early 2021. We are looking for reliable, adaptable, quality and safety focused individuals to join our team for this iconic project!
Specific Responsibilities:
Surveys land surfaces to determine precise location and measurement of lines, areas, contours, elevations, angles, and points for heavy civil construction projects
Accurately records survey data, and may compile notes, records, and sketches as additional documentation
Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to make mathematical calculations such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
Make accurate and neat drawings, knowledge of advanced mathematics and surveying
Supervision of crews, facility with electronic surface models and excavation, stake-controlled and stringless grading and paving operations, bridge grading, construction stakeout
Coordinates and collects the required as-build and quality documentation related to survey
Utilizes best practices to efficiently and safely attain deliver quality work
Requisitions and assigns survey and computer equipment to ensure maximum efficiency
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate
Works with the AutoCAD, Civil 3D model or other similar software to aid in development of required survey information
Coordinate with engineering team for specific requirement of detailed survey information, including pick up of existing on complete work to be provide for deign parameters.
Preferred Education and Experinece:
10+ years construction field experience
Demonstrated experience working with heavy civil projects, including construction and/or reconstruction of roadways and bridges
Ability to supervise multiple crews
BC MoTI or Alberta Transportation experience preferred
Requires a working knowledge of traditional surveying processes, as well as current industry practices. Also requires excellent written and oral communication skills, familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with surveying, engineering and construction.
Skilled in reading blueprints. Ability to perform all necessary calculations
Ability to lift equipment up to 50 pounds
Maturity in interaction with others and ability to operate independently in the field
Able-bodied as the work requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; climbing ladders; and bending
