Job description: We currently have an opening for an Intermediate Contaminated Sites Scientist to join our team in Vernon.

You have established your career in contaminated sites and have a desire to continue to learn and grow in a dynamic team environment. You enjoy the challenge of working on many projects concurrently, working with the team to address complex problems, and demonstrate an aptitude for consulting. You are competent completing both field sampling tasks and reporting, as well as project management. You are coachable and eager to advance and refine your skills as an environmental scientist. You are keen to continue to advance your career in consulting.

You will fill an intermediate environmental scientist role in our contaminated sites assessment and remediation practice. You will work both independently and with other scientists, on a wide variety of field and office assignments. Travel, flexibility, and field work is required for this position.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Conducting soil, surface water, vapour and groundwater quality investigations, and summarizing laboratory results.
  • Providing field services for contaminated site investigations.
  • Completing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, including research and interviews.
  • Liaising with clients, laboratories, and contractors.
  • Preparing work plans, proposals, and technical reports for projects.
  • Contributing to business development, including pro-active business development, leading, and assisting in proposal preparation.
  • Tracking project budgets.
  • Managing small and large-scale projects.

Job Requirements

What you will bring:

  • Undergraduate degree or applied technical diploma in environmental science, hydrology, physical geography, earth science, chemistry, water resources, or equivalent areas of practice.
  • 5+ years of post-graduation experience in contaminated sites.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, track progress on multiple tasks, manage logistics, and meet budgets and deadlines.
  • Committed team player.
  • Knowledge of the contaminated sites regulatory environment in BC, including the Environmental Management Act and the Contaminated Sites Regulation, and experience with sampling protocols.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a preferred relevant professional body (e.g., EGBC, BCIA, APBBC) or equivalent Federal certification body.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication, with proficiency in word processing, data analysis and data presentation.
  • Willingness to travel and work remotely, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Valid driver’s licence required.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000 and is commensurate with experience relative to this position.
