The Corporate Controller reports to the Vice President, Finance and Corporate Controlling. As a Finance team member, the Controller oversees the accounting and finance functions for all entities within the organization. This position directly supervises a Senior Financial Analyst and Financial Analyst.

The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting for the daily operations of all FLINT entities, maintaining fiscal records, preparing divisional financial reports and managerial reports, and providing divisional key team members with financial and analytical support for decision-making.

This is a permanent position based out of our Calgary Office.

What would you be doing?

  • For all companies within FLINT’s organizational structure, prepare monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial statements and reporting packages. Prepare GST reports and other document submissions and filings; ensure all are accurate and completed in a timely manner according to Company deadlines. Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts.
  • For all companies within FLINT’s organizational structure, ensure general ledgers are reconciled and maintained, including the preparation of monthly working papers. Work closely with Managers to ensure financial information requirements are all met.
  • Prepare and review consolidation activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in the collection of accounts receivable as required. Assist in preparing documentation and communicating with auditors during year-end and quarter-end reviews, including tax provisions and balance sheets.
  • Oversee the inventory process, including monthly count, costing and reconciliation. Work with other Finance employees to ensure internal controls and audit trails comply with internal and external requirements.
  • Provide financial and management support to Operations and other functional areas within the organization.
  • Responsible for formulating and tracking financial performance metrics.
  • Ensure all financial controls and company policies are adhered to.
  • Coordinate and review all entity’s corporate tax returns.
  • Provide support to the corporate services team with respect to how to apply PST to a bid. Understand the various rules and regulations in each province FLINT operates in and how to interpret each bid package and PST implications.
  • Support the external reporting function through timely and accurate completion of capital and debt/interest schedules.
  • Research and prepare variance analysis and explanations by analyzing past results, identifying trends, and providing recommendations for improvements to Corporate finance and the business.
  • Working closely with supply chain management on capital expenditures and adhering to and enhancing existing processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors as required. Single point of contact for external auditors to request information to support audit.
  • Participate in formulating the strategic direction of the Corporate Finance group. Key focus on process improvement and simplification, leveraging existing systems and resources where possible.
  • Coordinate subordinate work assignments and review work to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements, and procedures.
  • Work with supply chain and systems accounting to ensure the Delegation of Authority is properly adhered to within our business processes.
