Work hard, have fun and make history with Amazon’s legal team. We are looking for an experienced attorney to help manage Amazon’s labor and employment issues throughout Canada.
Responsibilities include providing practical advice and counseling regarding general labor and employment issues such as those relating to human rights, disability accommodation, hiring, performance management and discharge, wage and hour, wrongful termination, employee privacy, non-compete agreements, protection of trade secrets, union organizing campaigns, pay equity, and other relevant labor and employment issues. Responsibilities also include managing litigation, including class action litigation, government agency investigations, proactive training, and tribunal and ministry charges, as well as the assessment, selection, and supervision of outside counsel.
This position will work actively with internal clients in the Human Resources Department and requires the ability to travel and work extended hours when necessary.
This position reports to the Senior Corporate Counsel, Labor & Employment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· 7+ years of legal experience
· J.D. degree and membership in good standing in one province is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· A mix of corporate law firm and in-house experience
· Experience with large union and non-union hourly populations
· Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams
· Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Strong analytical and computer skills
· Common sense, great judgment, and a good sense of humor
