If you enjoy working independently in a fast paced call centre environment using a client centered approach to provide service over the phone, this position may be of interest to you. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Tobacco Cessation Counselor will ensure that the client receives appropriate information and support to enable him/her to decrease or refrain from the use of tobacco. Your solid knowledge of addictions, motivational interviewing techniques, Alberta Health Services systems, computer systems and their applications will enable you to meet the needs of the client. Your strong organizational skills and ability to problem solve will allow you to handle multiple tasks (data input, retrieving information, on phone with clients) in a timely manner. Please note this position will be moving to the CN Tower.
Description:
As a Counsellor I (Tobacco Cessation Counsellor (TCC)), you will provide client-centered support and telephone consultation, providing information to support and enable the client to decrease or refrain from the use of tobacco. You require a solid knowledge of mental health and addictions related issues, motivational interviewing and counselling techniques. You will manage multiple tasks, utilizing their organizational skills while inputting data and retrieving client information throughout the consultation period.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of bachelor’s degree in a health related field. Minimum two years’ experience in a mental health setting. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS – HCP). Current First Aid certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have effective time management and organizational skills, along with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner. You will be goal-oriented and customer service focused, with a solution-based approach to managing client needs. You will also have well developed communication skills, along with effective assessment, interviewing and counseling skills to determine the needs of the client. You will have the ability to work in a discreet and confidential manner and be adaptable to a changing environment. You will also have a commitment to working in a team setting. The successful candidate will also have a university degree in counseling, social work or relevant discipline. A minimum of two years’ experience with counseling clients is required. You will also be required to have experience with current computer applications and a minimum typing speed of 25 – 30 wpm. Preferred Qualifications:
A confident, positive attitude along with a caring and respectful manner will be assets. Clear enunciation over the telephone, clear and concise written and oral communication skills, and well-developed problem solving and critical thinking skills will also be assets. Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or College of Alberta Psychologists preferred. Experience with customer service and assisting people with Tobacco cessation/addictions or lifestyle changes is an asset.
