About the Opportunity

BNP Paribas Group currently has exciting opportunities available for both an Analyst and an Associate within our Credit Management Team. Both of these roles will be on a full-time basis and though we are currently working remotely, the successful candidate will be expected to be based within or relocate to the province of Quebec. Preferably the successful candidate will work in Montreal, QC.

The Power, Infrastructure, and Project Finance (PIPF) provides advisory services, arranges, structures, and advances non-recourse (or limited recourse) loans for client activities including power and energy; renewables such as wind, solar, and bio-fuel; and infrastructure projects. PIPF maintains a large, diversified portfolio of over 70 borrowers. PIPF Account & Credit Management Team is a part of the Credit & Portfolio Management group and is responsible for the monitoring and proactive management of the PIPF loan portfolio in North and Latin America, after the initial closing until termination/repayment.

With varying levels of responsibility and autonomy, some of your key responsibilities as the Analyst or the Associate working with our Credit Management Team will include:

  • Understanding and independently managing all aspects of a number of assigned Project Finance accounts including credit, legal and, compliance issues. Assigned accounts could include several complex transactions including deals where BNPP is the Agent Bank. Deals will include gas-fired merchant power plants, renewables, infrastructure projects, etcs.
  • Preparing credit and financial analysis and completing Annual Reviews as well as Quarterly Watchlist/Doubtful Reports.
  • Preparing internal credit proposals for amendments, waivers, and other requests for deals where BNPP is a participant.
  • Performing financial modelling and running sensitivities for transactions as well as interpreting model results and creating summaries to be used in internal and external documents.
  • Handling compliance and covenant-related issues including monitoring compliance receivables for each account.
  • Proactively identifying risks in the portfolio and deteriorating credits as well as communicating findings to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaising with the Bank’s Restructuring team for troubled deals.
  • Helping in origination and execution activities whenever appropriate.
  • Negotiating and coordinating amendment and waiver requests for deals Agented by BNPP while also liaising directly with borrowers, legal counsel, consultants, and lenders.
  • Attending meetings and conference calls with Lenders and clients.
  • Updating, discussing, and answering questions from participant Lenders on a daily basis.
  • Reviewing legal documentation and managing legal due diligence process with appointed lawyers.
  • Preparing credit-focused memos for internal and external dissemination.
  • Contributing to PIPF Portfolio Review including an overview of the PIPF portfolio, sector concentration, historical evolution of the portfolio, etc.
  • Responding to ad-hoc requests for reports and presentations from Risk and Management.
  • Taking ownership and leading other initiatives such as industry reviews, simulations of the entire portfolio based on certain parameters, etc.

More About You

In order to qualify for the role of either Analyst or Associate, you will need a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, credit analysis, or a similar relevant field. You will also need the following qualifications depending on the role that you are applying for:

  • As an Analyst, you will need at least 1 year of relevant experience. Recent graduates with a different mix of skills and education may also be considered.
  • As an Associate, you will need at least 5 years of relevant experience. You will also have previous experience working within credit analysis within the project finance sector. Our preference is for candidates who either possess or are actively working towards an MBA, CFA, or a CPA.

As our ideal candidate in either of these roles, you’ll join us with a good understanding of and familiarity with financial statements, accounting, corporate finance principles, and debt structures. You’ll also be familiar with and efficient in reading and understanding legal documentation, preferable legal documentation related to Project Finance including security agreements and project agreements.
