Job description: Job Summary
The WL Closure Project is a target cost contract between CNL and AECL for the closure of the WL Site. The WL Deputy General Manager (#2) is accountable for the decommissioning activities that occur at the WL site as well as responsibility for supporting the WL General Manager in the effective oversight and delivery of the entire WL Mission.
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner
and in accordance with established reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Education
- Undergraduate Engineering or Science degree from a University of recognized standing.
Experience
- 15 years of experience in areas of leadership and increased responsibilities in project management, site or facility restoration/remediation and/or nuclear decommissioning.
- Extensive leadership experience in site management and operations.
Abilities and Skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver large, complex projects on-time and within budget.
- Comprehensive understanding of project lifecycle management and application of safety programs.
- Strong capability of developing and managing collaborative relationships at all levels while building, leading, organizing, and motivating a large team of diverse roles.
- Ability to create and sustain a professional environment that fosters teamwork, continuous improvement, stakeholder satisfaction, and a high-level of personal accountability.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to present highly complex, sensitive information and key messages to internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Functions and Responsibilities
Functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees day-to-day operations including but not limited to assigning tasks, leading meetings, and implementing initiatives.
- Assists the General Manager with Site Management and Project plans by setting priorities, providing guidance and direction, and monitoring activity implementation.
- Provides oversight of safety, operational performance, quality, and business improvement for the site.
- Displays a safe, efficient, and effective operation of the WL Site and the WL Closure Project while maintaining the site license requirements and abiding by CNL’s safety objectives and priorities.
- Coordinates prompt resolution of field problems and issues regarding safety, non-conformance reports, condition reports, stop work orders, and correct action reports.
- Oversees all project operations, maintains budgeting responsibilities, and highly involved within the hiring and evaluating of company personnel.
- Maintains a large budget by effective financial planning, monitoring, and resolution of any issues and ensuring fiscal targets are met.
- Forms financial decisions that have a large impact by strategically planning, maintaining, and governing.
- Ensures public communication and consultation programs required by the WL site license, CNL, and the Environmental Assessment Follow-Up Program are implemented.
- Resolves complex issues that arise at the WL site by addressing, executing, and guiding towards a resolution.
- Maintains a field presence to monitor activities and verify safe workmanship, quality, and procedure compliance.
- Establishes CNL’s brand in the community by following the policies and procedures set out by the Company, while also identifying and recommending improvements to the current policies and procedures in place.
