Job description: Position Overview
The Department of Medicine IT in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Limited Term Medicine Deskside Support Technician for approximately 6 months.
Reports to Zone Manager, Medicine IT, Cumming School of Medicine, the successful candidate provides service to approximately 1500 members of the Faculty including support staff, researchers and students via e-mail and through direct contact with the computer hardware, software and systems problem resolution.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Ongoing maintenance of hardware and software to ensure systems are fully functional and available to users
- Keep abreast of current and future technical trends and developments and apply knowledge to the work area in order to take a more proactive approach to problem solving
- Respond to malfunctions, and emergencies, and assure the safety of people, equipment and other services
- Participates in the design and development of precision equipment and processes targeted to the Cumming School of Medicine teaching and research requirements
- Maintain strong client relation skills by initiating frequent interaction with senior administration and internal and external clients to ensure both the integrity of service client satisfaction is maintained
- Relate technical information, requirements and advancements to clients in a manner that is understood by people of all disciplines and backgrounds
- Provide solutions and ideas to improve quality and functionality of the IT Operations at the faculty
- Keep clients informed of technical emergencies in a timely manner
- Frequent interaction with the Technology Services Team Lead to ensure continuity of service to clients and eliminate redundant services
- Be a resource for others by continuous updating and upgrading of technical and communication skills through research, workshops, courses and technical manuals
- Handles pressure and stressful situations effectively so productivity is not affected and requests assistance as needed
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma in Information Technology or other related fields
- Several years experience in IT preferably in a higher education setting
- Minimum of 2 years of technical experiences and completion of post-secondary education, or certification in related discipline
- In-depth knowledge of theory and practical application of technical procedures and techniques
- Equivalent combination of skills and experience
- Well developed analytical and problem solving skills required
- Must have a desire to continually upgrade skills to stay current with technological advances
- Extensive knowledge in technology field
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Knowledge of CSM and UofC culture and operating procedures
- Current knowledge of standards and practices
- Understanding of safety codes and standards
- Ability to perform moderate manual activities
- Hands-on experience with Apple and PC hardware and peripherals
- Good working knowledge of Mac, Linux and PC Operating Systems, MS Office suite
