Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, PSCU, Inpatient Adult Surgery and Midwives, the Dietitian works collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary Gastroenterology Care Team and, is responsible for the nutritional management of children seen by the team. The Dietitian participates in case conferences and team rounds, and assists in the education of health centre staff, dietetic interns and affiliating students in normal and therapeutic nutrition. The Dietitian practices in accordance with the mission, vision and philosophies of IWK Health. The Dietitian holds accountability to the Professional Practice Chief for issues pertaining to professional Standards of Practice and Ethics. The Dietitian shares responsibility with all dietitians to provide caseload coverage throughout the Health Centre, as well as weekend stand-by and call-back coverage as required.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday days; 7.5 hours bi-weekly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with major credits in nutrition or dietetics required.
- Master’s Degree in nutrition considered an asset.
- Successful completion of a Dietitians of Canada accredited dietetic internship program required.
- Current license to practice with Nova Scotia Dietetic Association, or eligible to obtain license, required.
- Member of Dietitians of Canada (DC), or eligible for membership required.
- Previous related clinical nutrition experience required.
- Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification preferred.
- Previous experience with parenteral and enteral nutrition preferred.
- Ability to participate in weekend/holiday call required.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
- Demonstrated excellent time management, organization, and problem-solving skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative, interprofessional team, as well as the ability to work independently required.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to family-centred care required.
- Competency in other languages an asset; French preferred.
