University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Director, Finance – Capital in our Finance Department.

As an integral member of the Finance team supporting the Deputy CFO & the Vice President, FM-PRO (Facilities Maintenance, Planning, Redevelopment & Operations) the Director, Finance – Capital is responsible for all aspects of UHN’s Capital Plan. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development of the multi-year capital plan and monitor performance against plan
  • Provide financial support oversight over UHN’s 25 year, multi-billion dollar integrated Master Facilities Plan
  • UHN Finance contact for UHN Ministry of Health and Ministry of Long Term Care Funded Projects and associated Post Construction Operating submissions
  • Develop financial strategy to support the capital and master facilities plan
  • Liaise with the Ministry of Health and Executive Director, Strategic Developments, on Ministry capital requirements
  • Review all capital submissions to the Ministry of Health and other external funders and/or organizations
  • Enhance for financial reporting, planning and analysis of capital transactions.
  • Procurement liaison for capital projects.

Planning Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, manages and reviews short and long-term plans which are in alignment with UHN’s goals and strategies.
  • Prepares and/or reviews business plan documents in support of short- and long-term capital planning initiatives.
  • Monitors progress towards the achievement of goals at regular intervals and takes action, as required.
  • Develops and implements day-to-day operating policies, systems and procedures to contribute to organizational effectiveness.
  • Develops enhanced project cost control policies, procedures and reporting for large construction projects (>$50 M)
  • Develops, maintains and submits financial documents in support of provincially funded capital projects.
  • Develops comprehensive total life cycle costs for capital building & renovation projects and ensures identification of funding sources for required post construction operating budgets.
  • Participates on Executive Steering Committees for major capital projects
  • Prepares information for presentation to the Board of Trustees, Finance & Audit Committee, Real Estate & Capital Strategy Committee, Fiscal Advisory Committee and Executive Leadership Forum

Qualifications

  • A university degree in business (or related discipline) from a recognized and accredited educational institution.
  • A post graduate degree in business management or healthcare administration would be an asset.
  • Recognized professional accounting designation; CPA, (CA, CMA, CGA).
  • Experience with management of capital projects.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressively senior financial management experience in a complex organization providing broad knowledge of controllership and financial reporting.
  • Exceptional communication skill with the ability to articulate complex financial issues to a broad and diverse audience
  • Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing financial systems and improving financial processes
  • Experience interacting with and presenting to senior management
