The Finance division serves a wide range of constituents such as Financial Reporting, Payment Services, Payroll, Planning & Analysis, Procurement, Research Accounting, Treasury, Budgeting and Banking. This range of accountabilities underscores a significant emphasis on customer service excellence.

About the Role

The Director, Financial Services advances the University’s mission and operations through financial leadership, service excellence and innovation. The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Financial Services team that provides services for financial reporting, research accounting, specific purpose funds, banking, accounts receivable and student accounts. The Director applies expert deal advisory and technical accounting skills to structure deals to enable University capital development and develops and administers key financial policies and critical financial processes and systems. The Director contributes to the Finance leadership team’s overall management of the University’s finances to support and action the University’s plans and ensure financial sustainability.

The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of senior financial and operational leadership experience, preferably within the public sector or from the post-secondary education environment. You are an innovative leader with a proven track record of success in a highly complex organization, fostering transformative change, and building robust relationships at all levels, internally and externally. You are dedicated to mentoring, guiding and serving those around you in order to carry out a shared vision. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) and twelve years of related experience in a large complex organization or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Knowledge of deal advisory consulting practices.
  • Knowledge of legislation governing University operations related to taxation, charity, employment, pensions, reporting of financial information, privacy of information, and contractual arrangements.
  • Excellent leadership and change management skills with the ability to articulate, construct, and implement innovative and ambitious plans and initiatives across the organization.
  • Ability to apply professional knowledge, business acumen, analytical thinking and understanding of the University to develop and communicate solutions to senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate a vision, motivate a team, and create a collaborative, values-based, innovative culture that stimulates creative thinking and a will to seek out excellence.
