Director, Media Finance

This director role will be a strategic partner and advisor to Rogers Sports and Media division, which includes all Sports, Television, Radio and Digital properties. The focus will be on driving balanced and sustainable improvements in performance. The role promotes financial literacy and value discipline by embedding financial thinking and rigor. This is done by evaluating risk and return for key programs as well as strategic initiatives.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in financial planning and analysis at a senior level in complex environments. Strong communication, organizational and analytical skills are needed. Leadership and coaching of a team of Finance professionals including the development of key talent and succession planning. In addition, a proven track record of delivering results through solid business partnerships is a must. Successfully liaising with a dynamic Media team will be required to carry out this job function. The incumbent will be expected to play a pivotal role in providing value added decision support and strategic thought leadership to all stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the month end, forecasting and annual budgets exercises, socializing with all key stakeholders
  • Produce and track Key Performance Indicators at different segmented levels.
  • Keep apprised of trending changes in customer and industry behaviour
  • Present budgets, forecasts and value-added analysis to senior leaders on a regular and timely basis, communicating key trends, observations and business impacts
  • Influence business decision-making by provide qualitative and quantitative feedback, recommendations, and discussing “what-if” scenarios
  • Leverage your business acumen to assess rationality, economic feasibility, accuracy, and completeness of analysis with program owners
  • Apply creative problem solving skills to design and build financial models to analyze the economic impact with clear articulation of key assumptions and sensitivities
  • Prepare executive financial presentations for various stakeholders with clarity of thought
  • Analyze time sensitive competitive responses in the marketplace
  • Ensure targets and projections in business cases are properly reflected and captured in latest forecast/budget

What you have:

  • Strong business acumen with excellent problem solving skills
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, detailed oriented and relentless in the pursuit of winning
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated history of engaging with senior leadership
  • Proven ability to build strong client relationships while being viewed as a trusted and fair source of analytics and support
  • Senior level experience in Media or Advertising is preferable
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a high-paced / performance driven environment
  • Solid understanding of finance fundamentals, activity-based costing, as well as other analysis techniques
  • Must be able to work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines with accurate and detailed results
  • People manager with experience leading, managing, and motivating a team
  • University degree with 10+ years of experience in financial roles
  • MBA and/or an accounting designation is preferable
